How do I calibrate the hose end sprayer?
The hose end sprayer is designed to cover 5000 square feet. Therefore measure approximately 1000 square feet and one fifth of the solution should be consumed in that area.

How should Guard Dog™ Concentrate be applied?
Guard Dog™ does not require mixing. To apply, attach garden hose to container. Make sure the applicator lever is set on the OFF position. Turn water source on and switch applicator lever to the ON position. For an even application spray product 8 to 10 feet in front of you using an up and down motion while backing up. The rate of application with standard water pressure is approximately 8 oz per 1000 sq. ft. or approximately 33 ft. x 33 ft. It will take approximately 3 minutes to cover 1,000 square feet.

To verify that you are applying the proper amount of Guard Dog™ Concentrate, note total volume in the container prior to application, and mark one-fifth of the volume from top of container. If you have applied less than one-fifth and covered 1000 sq. ft. level, walk slower. If your gauge indicates you have applied more than one-fifth to 1000 sq. ft., walk faster. To stop application, turn the applicator lever to the OFF position and turn off the water source. For best results, apply every 6 to 8 weeks.

How frequently should Guard Dog™ be applied?
Guard Dog™ Ready to Use Concentrate should be reapplied when new spots begin to appear in the lawn. New spots are an indication that Guard Dog™'s microbial control is weakening and a new application is required. Typically an application lasts, 6 to 8 weeks.

Is Guard Dog™ Safe for my dog, my family, my lawn, and the environment?
Yes. However, please remove your dog from the treated area until the grass is fully dry. Guard Dog™’s individual ingredients are non-toxic. Each of the components has been independently tested and all have been found to be safe for pets, people, lawns, and the environment.

Why does dog urine cause yellow spots in lawns?
The spots are caused by an excess rate of uric acid, which is converted to ammonia, and high rates of salts or a combination of both. Guard Dog™ ties up the salts and ammonia and increases the filtration rate through the soil improving the ability of the grass to grow.

Is urine from female dogs worse than that from males?
Females discharge urine in a more concentrated area than males, which is more likely to lead to spotting in lawns. However, the real culprit is the concentration of the urine itself. The more highly concentrated the urine, the greater the damage to the grass.

What causes the difference in concentration of urine?
A number of factors are at work: the amount of water the dog consumes, genetics, and the dog's diet.

How many squirts of Guard Dog™ RTU are required to control the dog spots?
This depends on the size and the degree of damage. Generally small spots (less than 4 inches) require 3-6 squirts. The area should be pre-wetted, but not soaked. The yellow grass will change color and become darker as a result of the application. Spots just beginning to turn yellow require a couple of squirts. This is partially dependent upon the size of dog and the concentration of urine.

Will Guard Dog™ RTU prevent dog spots?
No, Guard Dog™ RTU is curative only; it will not prevent dog spots. Guard Dog™ RTU is effective in eliminating spots that are already present. If dog spot prevention is what you desire, then use Guard Dog™ Ready to Spray Concentrate.

The dog spots are not filling in as quickly in the summer as they did in spring, why?
Most grasses – bluegrass, fescue, and ryegrass grow more slowly in the summer. As the temperature increases, their rate of growth decreases. It is not uncommon for spots to not infill in the height of summer as a result. This is especially evident when the temperature is in the high 90’s or greater. The rate of infill is limited to the rate of growth of the grass.

Can I reseed the spots after applying Guard Dog™?
You can reseed dog spots shortly after applying Guard Dog™. Guard Dog™'s unique microbial activity does not impact germination or survivability of grasss seed. Once seeded, spots should fill in fairly quickly.
